🩵 Bhel Puri (Marathi Street Style)
🍽️ Ingredients:
For the Bhel:
-
2 cups puffed rice (murmura / kurmura)
-
½ cup finely chopped onions
-
½ cup finely chopped tomatoes
-
¼ cup boiled and diced potatoes
-
¼ cup finely chopped raw mango (optional, for tanginess)
-
¼ cup roasted peanuts
-
¼ cup nylon sev
-
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
-
1–2 green chilies, finely chopped
-
2 papdis (crushed slightly)
For the chutneys:
-
Tamarind Chutney (Sweet):
-
½ cup tamarind pulp
-
½ cup jaggery
-
½ tsp roasted cumin powder
-
½ tsp black salt
-
A pinch of chili powder
-
-
Green Chutney (Spicy):
-
½ cup fresh coriander leaves
-
¼ cup mint leaves
-
2 green chilies
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
Salt to taste
-
Blend both chutneys separately with a little water until smooth.
👩🍳 Method:
-
In a large bowl, add puffed rice (kurmura).
-
Add chopped onions, tomatoes, boiled potatoes, and green chilies.
-
Mix in roasted peanuts, coriander, and raw mango pieces.
-
Add 2 spoons of sweet tamarind chutney and 1 spoon of green chutney (adjust as per taste).
-
Sprinkle salt, black salt, and a little roasted cumin powder.
-
Mix everything well — but just before serving, so the puffed rice stays crispy.
-
Add crushed papdi and sev on top.
-
Garnish with coriander leaves and a dash of lemon juice.
🍋 Serving Suggestion:
Serve immediately in a paper cone (bharli kaghad chi chimbhi) or a small steel plate — just like Mumbai’s beach stalls!
🌶️ Tip:
If you love the typical Marathi khamang (flavorful) taste, add a little thecha (spicy green chili chutney) while mixing — it gives a fiery kick! 🔥
