✨ Gulab Jamun Recipe
Serves: 4–5 people
🧈 Ingredients
For the Jamun Balls:
-
1 cup milk powder
-
¼ cup all-purpose flour (maida)
-
1 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
-
¼ tsp baking soda
-
2–3 tbsp milk (or as needed to make dough)
For the Sugar Syrup:
-
1 ½ cups sugar
-
1 ½ cups water
-
4–5 cardamom pods (crushed)
-
Few saffron strands (optional)
-
1 tsp rose water or kewra essence (optional)
For Frying:
-
Ghee or oil (for deep frying)
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the Sugar Syrup
-
In a pan, add sugar and water.
-
Heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
-
Add crushed cardamom and saffron strands.
-
Simmer for 5–6 minutes until slightly sticky (not thick).
-
Turn off the heat and add rose water. Keep it warm.
2. Make the Dough
-
In a mixing bowl, add milk powder, maida, baking soda, and ghee.
-
Mix gently, then add milk little by little to form a soft, smooth dough.
-
Rest the dough for 5 minutes.
3. Shape the Jamuns
-
Divide the dough into small equal portions.
-
Roll each into a smooth, crack-free ball. (Cracks cause jamuns to break while frying!)
4. Fry the Jamuns
-
Heat ghee or oil in a deep pan on low-medium flame.
-
Gently slide the jamuns in and fry until they turn golden brown evenly.
-
Remove and drain excess oil.
5. Soak in Syrup
-
Immediately transfer the fried jamuns into the warm sugar syrup.
-
Let them soak for at least 1–2 hours so they become soft and juicy.
🍽️ Serving Suggestion
Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with chopped pistachios or almonds.
Can also be served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a modern twist!
💡 Tip
-
Fry on low flame for even cooking.
-
Make sure syrup is warm (not hot) when adding jamuns.
